Bar-Barian Program

Bar-Barian Program
New licence conditions are now imposed on the 100 most violent licensed premises in NSW with venues having to comply with mandatory 2am lockouts, no glass vessels after midnight and bans on shots and drink limits after midnight. Venues categorised as Level 1 and Level 2 are now required to develop and implement a venue safety plan setting out how alcohol-related violence will be reduced in the premises. To be removed from either level, venues must meet a certain criteria and record less than 12 assault incidences per year.

The Bar-Barian program has been designed to assist licensed premises in developing techniques for preventing and managing patron aggression and behaviour associated with the misuse and abuse of alcohol in public venues.

The program is designed to be undertaken on premises to assist, managers, supervisors, bar staff and security in recognising and addressing the risks related to alcohol consumption and to develop conflict resolution systems ensuring the improved safety of the general public.

The program aims to re-educate employees giving them a sound knowledge of mechanisms and processes for systematically managing alcohol related issues, intoxicated patron behaviour and the safety of the general public. Bar-Barian ultimately works towards reducing alcohol related anti-social behaviour and help premises meet government regulations and remove the venue from The NSW Top 100 Violent Venues list.
