What is S.M.A.R.T.?
S.M.A.R.T is a one day school based program that was implemented in 2009, and is delivered on site to schools addressing the harmful effects that alcohol can cause both physically and socially.
The program is delivered over a day with visual presentations and activities to ensure that the participants are engaged throughout the course.
Who is the target audience?
S.M.A.R.T. is specifically targeted at the vulnerable age group of 16-18 year olds i.e. students in years 10-12.
What areas does the program cover?
The program not only covers all essential elements of the conventional RSA course (therefore entitling all students to a certified qualification) but delves into more social aspects and consequences of alcohol use.
The delivery of the program can also be customised to meet the specific criteria of the Local Government Area (i.e. local crime and emergency statistics) and locale specific issues.
The essential elements conducted in each session include:
Expected outcomes of the program.
On completion of the program students will understand how to act appropriately in environments where alcohol is present as well as understanding the health and social effects of alcohol consumption and consequences of excessive alcohol use and abuse.
Tactical Training Group aims to provide a positive shift in student attitudes towards excessive alcohol consumption, decision making and their commitment to be socially aware of their responsibilities to their local community.
Students that successfully undertake the course and complete the assessment will be entitled to a Statement of Attainment in “SITHFAB009A Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol” as part of SIT20207 Certificate II in Hospitality as well as the NSW Casino Liquor and Gaming Control Authority Responsible Service of Alcohol Competency card.
We also offer an Alcohol Awareness Program (not including the RSA assessment component or competency card) specifically to do with effects of alcohol on the body, Identifying potential problem situations and many more related topics.
The program is a 4-6 hour session including breaks, which can be scheduled to run with school timetables.
Having delivered the course for a number of schools in the public and private sector, training over 800+ students, we have seen a significant shift in both attitude and awareness on conclusion of our program from the school body, parents and students. We can provide testimonials from schools where we have delivered the program on request.
